Learn to Lift

Learn to Lift was born from Women’s Strength Coalition’s mission to increase access to strength training. The goal of Learn to Lift is to teach a bimonthly powerlifting class on form, techniques, and benefits to communities that don’t have access to strength training. As such, our mission for this Learn to Lift event is to provide a welcoming and safe space for you to start or continue your strength training journey.

We will be focusing on how to perform the squat, bench, and deadlift, how to increase weight through proper form and how to stay motivated through experiences of our instructors.

Open to all new and intermediate lifters!

Free for members, and $5 for everyone else!

Tessia De Mattos

Tessia is a doctor of physical therapy student at Columbia University and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. She has over five years experience lifting and competing in powerlifting. She has a profound love and passion for the sport and has experience teaching numerous people how to lift notably during her time at NYU where she started “Girls Who Lift”, a lifting club for women with the goal of encouraging more women to lift weights and to feel empowered inside and out of the gym.

Stephanie Cruz

Since discovering lifting over 3 years ago, Stephanie experienced newfound strength, confidence, and happiness. She now looks to help others uncover their own strengths through lifting. She is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer.

Emma Pang

Hi, I’m Emma! I’ve been competing in powerlifting since 2017. When I found strength training it changed my life. I learned to appreciate my body and all that it’s capable of. I hope to help others feel the same!
